Tilly's Session
Tilda is an Adelaide-based actor with some very impressive credits already. Aged just 21 she is well recognised as an incredible performer on both stage and screen. She came in for some updated headshots and we had a really fun shoot in the studio and also working in natural light. Tilly is really lovely and has a very strong presence - confident and relaxed. Interestingly (like many actors) she is less comfortable in front of the stills camera than she'd like to be. We talked about why so many actors find headshots so confronting (maybe I will keep that discussion for another blog post) and I made the session as relaxed and easy as I could, despite the fact that we had a very tight schedule with a lot going on that day.
We had the wonderful Marion Lee doing Tilly's hair and makeup and as usual kept it very very natural. Tilly brought in a fantastic range of tops and dresses for us to choose from, but with such a tight schedule we didn't get to exploit the full range. As with all of my shoots I try to get as much range as possible, and we usually shoot a white background as well. Tilly preferred the grey background as soon as we shot against it, so this time I stuck with that for the studio shots, and then we worked in the back studio where we have beautiful natural light from the roller door. It was fun for me to use a new background we have in the studio (a set of blue doors I've had hinged together and put on wheels), which I think looks beautiful against Tilly's skin tone. We also used a cream-coloured background in the back studio. For a quick session we managed to get a good range of shots from the session, and Tilly is really happy with the images.
I was pleased to have one of the images selected by the Headshot Crew as 'Headshot of the Week', and I hope that Tilly's U.S-based agent is pleased with her new headshots!
